What

  • NSS (Name Service Switch) is a system mechanism to configure different sources for common configuration databases.
  • For example, /etc/passwd is a file type source for the passwd database.
  • It connects the computer with a variety of sources of common configuration databases and name resolution mechanisms.
  • A system administrator usually configures the operating system’s name services using the file /etc/nsswitch.conf.
